Patriots finally bringing back awesome AFL throwback jerseys in 2022

The current New England Patriots uniforms are certainly a solid set (especially when compared to their Touchdown Elvis brethren in the late 90s), but they aren t the best combination in team history. One has to wind back the clock to their AFL days to find their best unis ever. When the franchise was founded as the Boston Patriots in 1960, they unveiled a snazzy new look that featured either blue and white or blue and red stripes on the side of the jersey and “Pat the Patriot” ready to snap the ball on the side of the helmet. This combo has tons of detail without being overly noisy. Perfection. However, the NFL cracked down on uniform rules over the last decade, forcing the Patriots to lean on their modern navy blue and silver kits ever since. Now that the NFL is starting to loosen up on those restrictions, New England looks poised to make a major fashion statement in 2022. The Patriots Hall of Fame confirmed that the red throwback jerseys will make a return in 2022. For the first time in a decade, New England will put on the same threads that John Hannah, Andre Tippett, Steve Grogan, and dozens of other Patriots legends wore in their careers.

Learning on the fly: Struggling Zach Wilson out to make his mark down the stretch for Jets

FLORHAM PARK Zach Wilson needs to learn to read with his feet. Eight games into his rookie season, Wilson is beginning to see the value of footwork, rhythm and timing working in concert. It can be throwing off the plant foot on a five-stop drop, a hitch and release, or understanding when to move to the next read or throw it away. That calibration is happening on the fly for Wilson in his first season in the NFL. Last week may have been his best performance in the flow of offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur's scheme as Wilson completed 23 of 38 passes (60.5 percent) for 226 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in a 33-18 loss to the Eagles. "I feel like this week and last, it s getting better," Wilson said. "I don t think there s ever going to come a time where you don t keep improving that part of the game and finding that balance between when to step up, when to get a ball out of your hands, when to take off. I think it s something I m still trying to figure out and I think it s going to keep improving." Wilson's performance, which also included a rushing touchdown, netted him NFL Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Today鈥檚 NBA Player Prop Picks: Bane Lights Up Thunder

While Thursday's NBA slate features some of the league's worst teams, it gives us some great prop bet opportunities to fade struggling players and tap into some of the league's less-active markets. Find out more with tonight's NBA player prop picks. The NBA betting board has five games on Thursday and three of those contests feature some of the worst teams in the league. While that might sound like a good reason to change the channel, losing teams often feature some of the best player prop bets available. Whether it's fading a player that's likely to struggle, backing a player on the other team in a juicy matchup, or wagering on a star who needs to carry his mediocre franchise, we intend to win with some losers in our best NBA prop picks for Thursday, December 2. Today s best NBA player props Bane of their existence The Oklahoma City Thunder have lost seven games in a row and head to FedEx Forum to face the Memphis Grizzlies, who are coming off back-to-back wins without Ja Morant. The absence of Morant means more shots and scoring opportunities for other Memphis players, including guard Desmond Bane. Bane is third on the team with 16 points per game and has been even more productive lately, dropping at least 18 points in five of his last six contests and averaging 19.8 ppg over that span. He's been on fire from deep during that stretch, averaging 3.7 made three-pointers per game on 52.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Thunder are allowing a league-high 14.1 three-pointers per game on 35.5 percent shooting (ninth-worst). Expect another strong shooting night from Bane and take the Over on his points.

Steelers鈥?appreciation for Cam Heyward only grows 鈥?as does his impressive resume

As Justin Herbert galloped like a gazelle past the second and third levels of the Steelers defense, there was Cam Heyward, the 6-foot-5, 295-pound defensive tackle in his 11th season, willing himself to chase down the second-year quarterback nearly 40 yards downfield. By the time he made that improbable tackle, the huffing and puffing had set in for the 32-year-old whose asthma and allergies were so bad as a kid that he once found himself in UPMC Children s Hospital of Pittsburgh around Christmastime.Even on a play the Chargers gained 36 yards, and even in a game the Steelers lost, it was one of those plays that will come rushing back in the minds of fans years from now when they look back on Heyward s innumerable contributions to his team and his city. But why wait until he s gone? In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Pittsburghers should be plenty thankful now for a player who has long been great but often quietly, sometimes off the radar. Not this year. The NFL world is seeing one of the best people in the league have one of the best seasons in the league. Heyward has 4 ? sacks, already more than the four he had in 2020, a forced fumble and recovery, an interception and a whopping seven passes deflected, a number that not only leads the team but ranks second in the NFL among non-defensive backs (Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah has eight in one more game played). While those stats are impressive, they likely aren t prolific enough to garner much NFL Defensive Player of the Year consideration over players at other positions with more sacks and interceptions. But those watching Heyward on a weekly basis know his impact in a thankless role is going far beyond the box score, and not just on the field. His batted pass against Herbert that led to a Cam Sutton interception in the fourth quarter was another indelible image that will be on the short list of Heyward s most memorable plays, though that list might not be so short if he keeps having what could be the most dominant run of his three-time All-Pro career (so far). “Cam is Cam, man. He gives everything he s got,” coach Mike Tomlin said after the Chargers game. “That s why we love him and respect him. That s why we elected him as a captain and that s why he represents us in that way.”Two weeks ago, on a chilly November night in the Strip District, Heyward was holding court at Coop de Ville, the chicken sandwich restaurant on Smallman Street. Heyward had on a vintage NFL lettermen jacket over top of his favorite jersey, the Pitt Panthers No. 34 that his dad Craig, better known as “Ironhead,” wore for four years in this same city.It was a fitting get-up for the annual Heyward House gala, the biggest fundraiser for the Cameron Heyward Foundation he founded in 2015. After a one-year hiatus due to the uncertainty of 2020, the event was back in full force, with more than a dozen current or former Steelers joining in on the fun and proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test required at the door to ensure a safe evening. TV screens around the bar flashed photos of past outings, whether it was Heyward hanging out with patients at Children s Hospital, talking to them via Zoom, or kids enjoying one of the free mini-libraries in underserved Pittsburgh neighborhoods that were part of a new initiative last year during the pandemic.“I just have to say how special this guy is,” said Heyward s mother, Charlotte who s instrumental in his foundation to guests that night. “You guys see him on the field giving 150, 200 percent every play every game. But he s this kind of person off the field, too. I m just so proud of him.”For his part, Heyward deflected the praise to his mom, other family members and most of all his wife, Allie, who runs the show for Cam and their three children to “keep us all centered,” as he put it.

Champion Partners with Netflix for Stranger Things Apparel

The sports apparel company will put out clothing with the Hawkins High School logo just in time for winter.Although it has been passed by Squid Game as Netflix's biggest series to date, Stranger Things is still highly profitable with the highly anticipated fourth season of the show coming in mid-2022. Of course, between now and then we all must get past what could be one very cold winter. And so it was a wise announcement for sports apparel giant Champion to announce a partnership with Netflix to produce Stranger Things themed winter apparel. Champion has announced shirts, hoodies and varsity jackets in both light and darker colors featuring the Hawkins High School logo from the show. The darker shaded items feature the logo, appropriately enough, Upside Down. Stranger Things, of course, is the highly acclaimed Netflix science fiction and horror series centered around the strange events in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana and is set during the 1980s. The series was created by the Duffer Brothers and was an immediate ratings success for Netflix, quickly becoming the streaming giant's biggest hit.The first season of Stranger Things focuses on the investigation of the strange disappearance of a young boy named Will Byers. While investigating his disappearance, the town has other, stranger things (Which rather makes the show's name make sense, doesn't it?) happen, including the appearance of a mysterious psychokinetic girl named Eleven. Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, quickly became a fan favorite. The second season focused on the rest of the kids on the show helping Will to Hawkins, Indiana after being in the mysterious Upside Down. They also must combat the strange beings that were freed from the Upside Down when they rescued Will in season 1. One of the reasons that Stranger Things has such a following is the series's ability to infuse pop culture references from the 80s into the show, receiving acclaim for, not only its writing and pacing, but also its direct homages to several classic 1980s films. The Duffer Brothers stated that they took inspiration from the works of such notables as Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, and the master of horror himself, Stephen King. With Stranger Things being so reliant on 80s references, it is no surprise that a company like Champion has chosen to partner with Netflix to create branded material. Founded in 1919, Champion apparel found a resurgence in their brand when the NFL used their products for both their on-field and replica jerseys in the 1980s. Although Champion's partnership with the NFL did not last too long into the 90s, they found a new partner with the NBA and continued to do well with their new partner. Champion was purchased by Sara Lee Corporation in 1989. Now, they are owned by Hanesbrands, which was spun off from Sara Lee in 2006.The cast of Stranger Things includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Cara Buono and Dacre Montgomery. Netflix recently released a teaser for season 4, which you can watch below. Seasons 1 through 3 are streaming now on Netflix and season 4 premieres in 2022. You can see the collab with Netflix for Stranger Things apparel at Champion.
